Recently, I received "The Monthly Smile" from Lake Oconee Dentistry in the mail and I was very happy to read about Dr. Shelly's favorite books on the front page, sharing with so many of us how she developed a passion for reading. In the article, Dr. Shelly talked about teaching her children to enjoy reading and she mentioned that her favorite authors are Mary Kay Andrews and Elin Hilderbrand. This was my clue that maybe others are looking for great books like these at Greene County Library! If you are someone who also enjoy reading books by these authors, please check out our recommended reading list below with links to our online catalog! Be sure to have your library card ready. We are available to assist during business hours or you can send us a message on our website. Here are 5 books by Mary Kay Andrews and Elin Hilderbrand that you will love to read! Reserve your copy by going to www.gapines.org.

Hello, Summer by Mary Kay Andrews

"Conley Hawkins left her family's small town newspaper, The Silver Bay Beacon, in the rear view mirror years ago. Now, after ten years of blood, sweat, and tears, Conley is exactly where she wants to be and is about to take a fancy new position at a New York City newspaper. That is, until she discovers at her own going away party that her new job is suddenly gone, disappearing overnight along with her hopes and dreams of a bright future in a big city. Dread in her heart and a sinking feeling in her gut, Conley ends up in the last place she ever wanted to be: The Beacon, now reluctantly run by her sister, Grayson, whose own dreams of being a lawyer were put on hold with the death of their father. Covering a sleepy beach town with church news and the local funeral home director dictating the day's obituaries to her over the phone isn't exactly every reporter's dream, and to make matters worse, she and her sister see eye to eye on almost nothing. Matters come to a head after Conley witnesses a car accident that ends in the death of a local politician - a beloved war hero with a secret shady history whose death may not be exactly what it seems"

Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews

Drue Campbell's life is adrift. Out of a job and down on her luck, life doesn't seem to be getting any better when her estranged father, Brice Campbell, a flamboyant personal injury attorney, shows up at her mother's funeral after a twenty-year absence. Worse, he's remarried -- to Drue's eighth grade frenemy, Wendy, now his office manager. And they're offering her a job. It seems like the job from hell, but the offer is sweetened by the news of her inheritance: her grandparents' beach bungalow in the sleepy town of Sunset Beach, a charming but storm-damaged eyesore now surrounded by waterfront McMansions. With no other prospects, Drue begrudgingly joins the firm, spending her days screening out the grifters whose phone calls flood the law office. Working with Wendy is no picnic either. But when a suspicious death at an exclusive beach resort nearby exposes possible corruption at her father's firm, she goes from unwilling cubicle rat to unwitting investigator, and is drawn into a case that may -- or may not -- involve her father. With an office romance building, a decades-old missing persons case re-opened, and a cottage in rehab, one thing is for sure at Sunset Beach: there's a storm on the horizon.

The High Tide club by Mary Kay Andrews

"When ninety-nine-year-old heiress Josephine Bettendorf Warrick summons attorney Brooke Trappnell to her 20,000 acre barrier island home, Brooke is puzzled. Everybody in the South has heard about the eccentric millionaire mistress of Talisa, but Brooke has never actually met her. Josephine's cryptic note says she wants to discuss an important legal matter, but why enlist Brooke and not the prestigious Atlanta law firm she has used for years? Brooke travels to Shellhaven and meets the cagey Josephine, whose home is a crumbling pink mansion at the edge of the turquoise sea. Over the course of a few meetings, Josephine spins a tale of old friendships, dark secrets, betrayal, and a long-unsolved murder. She is hiring Brooke for two reasons: first, to protect her island from those who would despoil her land, and second, to help her make amends with the heirs of the women who were her closest friends, the girls of The High Tide Club -- so named because of their youthful skinny dipping escapades..."--

Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand

Irene Steele's idyllic life -- house, husband, family -- is shattered when she is woken up by a late-night phone call. Her beloved husband has been found dead. Before Irene can process this tragic news, she must confront the perplexing details of her husband's death. He was found on St. John island, a tropical paradise far removed from their suburban life. Leaving the cold winter behind, Irene flies down to the beautiful Caribbean beaches of St. John only to make another shocking discovery: her husband had a secret second family. As Irene investigates the mysterious circumstances of her husband's death, she is plunged into a web of intrigue and deceit belied by the pristine white sand beaches of St. John's.

What Happens In Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand

A year ago, Irene Steele had the shock of her life: her loving husband, father to their grown sons and successful businessman, was killed in a plane crash. But that wasn't Irene's only shattering news: he'd also been leading a double life on the island of St. John, where another woman loved him, too. Now Irene and her sons are back on St. John, determined to learn the truth about the mysterious life -and death - of a man they thought they knew. Along the way, they're about to learn some surprising truths about their own lives, and their futures.
