Ms. Tara brings you fun and creative ways to interact with you early-learner with these helpful books and activities!
Day 1: Letter Sounds!
Start sounding out the letters of the alphabet each day! If your little one is just starting out, pick one letter out per day to focus on. You can go for a scavenger hunt around your house or your neighborhood for it! When you find the letter have them say the letter name and make the sound of it! A great tip is to start with letters that are used the most often in words, such as ‘t,’ ‘m,’ and ‘g.’

If you miss the feel and smell of library books and want the real thing, head over to your Pines App or our website to place these titles on hold for curbside pick-up (by appointment only, you will be contacted once your title comes in to set it up).
Day 2: Science!
Start introducing scientific thinking to your children! Ask them a question, discuss the situation, try a few scenarios, and see if they can guess the outcomes! Then follow it by the actual experiment and conclusion! You may be thinking, wait this sounds difficult, but you can do this in everyday things from crafts to cooking to playtime!
First, brush up on the scientific method: research a question, form a hypothesis, experiment, and draw results/conclusions? Here is a great video to watch with your little ones from PBS Kids!
Need some experiment ideas?
A great experiment for a hot day is to go turn on the water hose and make a rainbow! Ask your kids if they know what a stream of water is, then ask if they think that stream will look to make the best rainbow! Let your kids experiment and spray away! You can then see how much water is needed to make the best mud for making mud pies!
If it’s a rainy day, pull out some recipes and see what happens if you tweak a few ingredients! Take a guess what it will look and taste like the whole way through!

Tip: Ask open-ended questions to your child. “What do you think” as opposed to “do you think x or y will happen” will allow them to make more connections
